Jessica Geron, Happy Days 2009
Acrylic paint on KLIPPAN
Home? – A collection and intermeshing of stories… the birthday party where the whole family wore those silly hats, the baby wriggling on the floor, the new couple canoodling and the cool bike trick you figured out riding down your street. This painting represents this mish-mash of memories, which combine to give us a sense of home.
Jessica Geron is a Sydney-based painter who has been exhibiting her work in Sydney and Melbourne for over ten years. In her work she often references popular culture – drawing on source material from magazines, film, street press, junk mail and an ongoing obsession with vintage magazine and comic book covers. She samples imagery from different sources to create new narratives. Jess completed her Master of Fine Arts, Painting at the College of Fine Arts, UNSW in 2006.
