Nana Ohnesorge, We Are Family 2009
This sofa cover is about the people who create a home for us: our families, friends and ourselves. Nana depicted some members of her family (including herself) in the silhouettes, and aimed for different generations to create an instant circle of friends and an artwork at the same time.
Nana Ohnesorge migrated from Germany to Australia in 1982, and started her arts career as a self-taught artist working in collage. She began painting in the late 1990s and has since been a finalist in numerous prestigious award exhibitions including the Portia Geach Memorial Award (Women’s Portrait Prize) and the Sulman Prize at the Art Gallery of NSW. She completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the National Art School in Sydney in 2005 and in 2007 completed three artist residencies (Paris, Berlin, and Hazelhurst Regional Gallery). Her recent exhibitions include Les Mystères de Paris at James Dorahy Project Space, Sydney and Hugo Michell Gallery, Adelaide.
